Program NotesThe Windhover The poem impressed me with its power the first time I read it. The title itself evokes the idea of the Spirit of God, bringing to mind Genesis 1:2, "the spirit of God hovered over the surface of the water." and the use throughout the New Testament of the Greek word that is translated as spirit and also as wind. As I explored further the meaning of this sonnet, I was challenged to set it to music.
